In 2008 Peter Eastgate won the WSOP Main Event and immediately jumped to fame, but he decided to retire short afterwards. Now, the poker player has announced that he will come back this year in the $25k NBC National Heads-Up Championship at EPT Copenhagen.
The player says he does not consider this a comeback since he always knew he would probably play poker again. “During my hiatus from poker, PokerStars have been very supportive. Therefore, I am pleased that I will start out with playing two events where I will be sponsored by PokerStars, ” he commented.
The poker community was certainly shocked in 2010 when Eastgate announced his plans to retire, only a few weeks before the 2010 WSOP Main Event. It seemed that the great potential of the 24-year-old professional poker player would be wasted as he was pretty firm about leaving the poker world.
Eastgate also said that he decided to retire because after winning the 2008 WSOP title his life changed as well as his routine and he was constantly under the spotlight, which was hard to bear. The poker player added that while winning the WSOP was great, he lost track of the most importing thing in his life, himself.
